A Little Wine, Some Bromance and a Dash of Horror

Bottle Shock: Surprisingly good. It's about the rise of California wines on the world stage, all due to a French wineshop owner's contest pitting French and California wines against each other. Beautiful backdrops and Alan Rickman as a snooty Brit ex-pat and Paris wine school/shop owner make it worth a watch. Pretty smooth, with a nice finish.

I Love You Man: Good, maybe not great. Definitely has some funny moments and a great cast (can there ever be enough Paul Rudd in my life? I don't know, but he's been in so many things lately that I think we might soon find out.) Somewhat literally a bromance, it applies the conventions of a rom-com — two people meet, hit it off instantly, hang out blissfully until one does something stupid and pisses the other off, at which point there is a break between them, before a final grand-gestured reunion and living happily ever after — to the relationship between two guy friends. Entertaining, enjoyable.

Jennifer's Body
: Entertaining. Seriously. Written/produced by Diablo Cody of Juno fame, it packs the same kind of punchy (and bizarre) dialogue, plus lots of sexy high school horror movie camp. Oh, and Amanda Seyfried (of Mean Girls fame) is absolutely wonderful. She's just the most adorably, believably sweet and naive, but tough-as-nails when shit hits the fan, best friend. Seeing this one in the theater isn't necessary as it's full of more fun than fright.

The Final Destination: Awful. Disgusting, stupid, poorly acted. Many of you will ask why I even saw this movie. Good question and one I asked myself repeatedly whilst — and shortly after — enduring it.
