Average Kids aren't so Average

Kick-Ass
Dir: Matthew Vaughn, 2010

Bloody funny & bloody violent.

More Kill Bill than it is Spy Kids, this movie deals with what happens when a recently motherless comic book nerd dresses like superhero and tries to fight real crime. He gets hospital-grade pummeled, gains an Internet following and inspires a father-daughter vigilante duo to suit up for revenge against the crime boss that ruined their lives, among other things.

The movie's full of great lines, eccentric characters (can Nic Cage play any other kind?) and cool fight sequences. The best ones involve a purple-wigged Chloe Moretz as Mindy McCready and her alter ego Hit-Girl. She curses, flips and annihilates henchmen with ease, but she's not too tough for giant bowls of ice cream.

If you like dark comedy, Tarantino and melodrama, this movie is for you. I like two out of three and I had a good time.
